In 1910, the town requested that it be named Fairfield, but that name was rejected by the post office in Ottawa.
As the offer was received on Arbor Day, the Post Office asked if the residents would accept Arborfield, which they did.
The Post Office opened on July 1, 1910.
The first Postmaster was Frank Cummings, who held the position from 1910 until 1917.
