The Post office opened on Nov 1, 1906, and closed on May 31, 1914.
It reopened on July 1, 1935, and closed permanently on June 30, 1966.
The first postmaster was William Schaffer, who held the position from 1906 until 1914.
The town was named for Cavalier county in North Dakota, the home of many of the early settlers.
