Cremona had its beginnings when one of its pioneers (Mr and Mrs Smith Jackson) opened a store and Post Office 1½ miles east of its present location in the year 1906.
Mrs Jackson was widowed and later married Mr P A Bird.
Together, they raised a family and lived in Cremona until 1960.
Mrs Jackson, along with her good friend Mrs Caroline Reid, named their new village, Cremona, after Cremona, Italy, home of the Stradivarius Violins.
When the railway came through in the 1930s, Cremona moved to its present site.
The Post office opened on July 1, 1906.
