The hamlet was named by the CPR after one of its benefactors: Charles Murray, 7th Earl of Dunmore.
The name of the town was changes to Coleridge on January 1, 1905, and changed back to Dunmore on August 16, 1957.
Post office opened on February 1, 1886.
