The town was originally called Cornfeld.
By 1919 the town was refered to as Eaton and the name was officially changed to Eatonia on July 1, 1921.
The town was named after Timothy Eaton, the Department store owner.
The Post Office opened on November 1, 1913.
The current population is 499.
