The town was originally named Frobyshire. The name was changed to Frobisher on June 1, 1902.
The town was named for Martin Frobisher, the English explorer who searched for the Northwest passage.
The Post Office opened on February 1, 1902.
The first Postmaster was John Riddell, who held the position from 1902 until 1912.
