The first permanent settlement of Nipawin occurred in 1910 with the establishment of a trading post.
The CPR was approaching Nipawin from the SOUTH in 1924. The entire town was skidded (mostly by horses) from the original location roughly 2 miles SE of the present.
The Post office opened on February 1, 1910.
The current population is 4265.
