R A P I D   C I T Y

The community was originally called Ralston's Colony (after John Ralston, an early settler). Around 1877, it was decided to rename the community Rapid City, since the community was on the banks of the Little Saskatchewan River, and it was a "rapid stream,".
The Post office opened on September 1, 1879.




A letter mailed in Rapid City on May 6, 1881, when the town was part of the North West Territory.
