The first homesteaders were George Elliott, Norman Morrison and J.W. Hutchison. Mr. Hutchison opened the first store and Post Office in 1906. The town name was taken from Mrs. Spalding's birthplace in England.
The Post Office opened on December 1, 1906.
The first Postmaster was J.W. Hutchison, who held the position from 1906 until 1920.
