The community was named after Dr. Alcombreck, an Edmonton physician who was the original landowner of the site where the hamlet was later established. A local post office officially opened in Alcomdale on February 2, 1920. Its first postmaster, Thomas Frank Lovelock, served the community in that role for 26 years until 1946.

Like many small settlements in Sturgeon County throughout the early-to-mid 20th century, Alcomdale served primarily as a local agricultural siding and service point for surrounding farm families, featuring grain elevators, small shops, churches, and a local school house over its history.

As commercial shipping and travel patterns shifted, many of the early commercial businesses closed or consolidated into larger nearby centers. Today, the hamlet remains a quiet residential community with a local community hall and public park space serving area residents.
