The first homesteaders arrived around 1919, building rudimentary log homes and relying on logging camps, trapping, and hunting for livelihood. By the early 1930s, more families had settled, clearing land for agriculture amid the challenges of the Great Depression era. The discovery of oil and gas in the early 1950s marked a pivotal shift, transforming the local economy as drilling operations replaced logging and spurred infrastructure growth, including temporary worker housing and lease roads that reshaped the terrain. Community milestones include the construction of the original hall in the late 1950s and the current community centre in 1978, fostering social gatherings. The Post Office opened November 1, 1930. The first postmaster was Alfred Damant, who held the position until 1948.
