Historically, the area around Beaver Crossing played a role in the early fur trade, with a Hudson's Bay Company post established there to collect pelts from smaller outlets in the vicinity; trade goods were shipped to the post from Fort Pitt on the North Saskatchewan River. The Beaver River crossing itself was part of a key route into the fur-rich Athabasca region, utilized by traders as early as 1778. The Post Office opened April 1, 1910. The first postmaster was W.J Price, who held the position until 1913.
