The town was named after Father Louis Le Doussal, a prominent Oblate missionary who served extensively in northern Alberta missions (including Fort Chipewyan) during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Post office opened on November 1, 1929, and closed on December 19, 1949. The first postmaster was Joseph Bouchard, who held the position until 1940.
